About Us

Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf was opened in September 1978 with 99 pupils on roll. Mr J.E. Malcolm Thomas, its first headmaster was assisted by a team of 10 teachers who divided their time between the new Welsh school and its English counterpart on the same site. Only one of this early team, Mrs Brenda Goodfellow (nee Thomas), is still at Glantaf

The school increased in numbers to such an extent that in September 1986 the lower school was moved to the old Cantonian High School site at Waterhall, Fairwater. Mrs Marian Wynne took the reigns here, caring for year 7 and 8 pupils for 12 years. One important development during this period was the establishment of a Special Unit in the school and three boys from Ysgol Coed y Gof were welcomed in. Yet another change occurred in 1998, and the school transferred back to the main site on the banks of the Taff in Llandaff North, as Ysgol Gyfun Gymrag Plasmawr was opened at the lower school site receiving a number of pupils from years 7 and 8.
